Summer Internship Programme (SIP)-SOP


Summer Internship Program (SIP), SVCCAM gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to significant problems in the public, private, or non-profit sectors and develop and enhance skills in areas of professional interest. The internship – completed over the summer following the first year of coursework – helps students clarify their career direction and enables students to establish networks of great value in securing post-graduation employment.

SIP Objective:

The Summer Internship Program is meant to bridge the gap between real-life business and academic institutions. It is a simulation of the business environment and enables students to experience the rigors of a business organization.

  • Provide students with opportunities to apply the concepts learnt in the classroom to real- life situations
  • To sensitize students to the dynamics of a workplace by assigning time-bound projects in a company
  • To provide students a platform to the network which will be useful to further their career prospects.

Roles and Responsibilities of Intern:

  • Be punctual for work
  • Be responsible for the tasks assigned
  • Do not leave work before the end of office hours
  • Display a professional attitude and pleasing appearance
  • Be pleasant to all the people he/she interacts with
  • Do not hesitate to seek help if encounter problems

Rules & Regulation:

  • All students are required to undergo the Summer Internship Program for eight to twelve weeks after the successful completion of the third trimester.
  • The Summer Internship Program carries a weightage of six credits. Our career development cell works closely with each student to help identify and secure an internship that will advance the student’s individual career needs and goals.
  • This is a paid summer internship program. There may be unpaid internships as well. However, the institute will try its level best to provide only paid internships. In some cases, the capability of the student plays a major role for us to request the companies to provide a stipend. In such cases, it may be beyond the institute's capacity to get a paid internship opportunity. The CDC department urges the students to sincerely work to gain good knowledge.
  • The SIP stipend will vary spending on the student’s capability and domain knowledge, hence the institute strongly condemns comparison. If found engaging in such activities the institute has the right to debar the student not only from the Internship opportunity but also from attending academic sessions, depending on the severity of the situation.
  • The school will not be responsible for any kind of travel expenses and accommodation expenses incurred if any during SIP. The intern has no right to demand reimbursement for his / her expenses during the SIP. There will not be any accommodation facility on campus even if the student has local internships as everything will be closed for renovations.
  • Students must leave the hostel during their SIP internship for maintenance and upkeep work of the hostel. If the students wish to keep any of their belongings in the institute, they will have to arrange for their own carton boxes for safekeeping, the space will be provided underground. However, it is at your own risk. The boxes should be labeled neatly with your name and room number.
  • The institute will give the student an internship opportunity in his domain at the best possible organization. The students cannot refuse or ask for a choice, in both the case another company will not be given. The student will have to find his own internship company.
  • Students who have less attendance, (See attendance policy) arrears or low academic grades (See the academic policy) will not be provided with the internship. They will have to stay back for the support sessions. During that period they will have to find their own accommodation as the hostel rooms will be closed for renovation.
  • If students are found misbehaving, Nonperforming, or engaging in any other unpleasant activities in the internship company they will immediately be removed from the company and sent home. They will not be eligible for another internship. They will lose the credits and depending on the gravity of the situation the student will be kept from the academic classes also.
  • Once the student accepts the offer they cannot refuse it and have to completely oblige to abide by the company's rules.
  • The objective of the assessment of SIP is to provide the intern with feedback concerning both general and specific professional skills and competencies.
  • The feedback will be taken from the external guide (from the organization) and the internal guide (from the business school).
  • The student is expected to make 3 copies of the final report and submit one copy to the organization, business school and one copy for himself/herself.
  • The internal guide reserves the right to visit the organization and assess the performance of the intern by taking formal feedback from the reporting manager.
  • Schedule – Internal guide visit to the Organization 15th day from the start of the internship, 45th day from the start of the internship towards the end of the internship program.
  • A virtual/Online internship is not permitted.
