SPORTS DAY
APRIL 2010

The digitalization has made the world flat. It has also made sports a forgotten art. Youngsters, students flock around video parlors, prefer being couch potatoes and keep thumbing SMSs. In fact these have become the main forms of entertainment. The sedate life style, paucity of time and lack of involvement in field games has made obesity as one of the major illness amongst the youth. The famous proverb "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy holds good for all especially MBA students. It emphasizes that students need's some games or free time to expand his horizon and feel better about himself and the world around him.

Society and students need a fine balance of education and fun. Although the need for education is clearly stressed in today's society, people have inadvertently forgotten that play is also just as important. Education is a solid foundation for what a person becomes, so is knowing how to relax and take a break from the busy academic curriculum

The college was full of outdoor activities. Lec Syed Haroon and Lec Manimaran. were the architects of the sports events , went about in a precise manner and organized all the events like short put, tennikoit, carom, TT, athletics, Cricket and Marathon. Suresh Kalmadi must take a cue from them for the commonwealth games scheduled in October 2010.Many of the students who were considered chinks in the armour turned out to be the star performers. Mr.Murali Sundar of I MCA and Mr.Prabakaran of I MBA were unofficially declared as Carl Lewis of the College as they walked away with the maximum number of individual prizes.

Ms. Deepa of I MBA was crowned as the PT Usha of the College for her sterling performance in the field and track events. SVIITM were the winners in the team events. They made a clean sweep in the both the events in cricket and volley ball.

It can firmly be said, the value of sports and games is just as significant as the importance of education. Sports and games do play an active role in the curriculum at SVGI for overall development of a students' personality.
