National Level Management Meet

February has been very a hectic and an eventful month at Sri Venkateswara Group of institutions, Coimbatore. The first National Level management meet was organized by the MBA department on 20th February 2010. Any first or anything done for the first time is special. A major event, with no archives, records with all novices ventured to organize the event.

The conveners and the portfolio members were careful and cautious, as history was being created. Every Step, plan and execution were likely to become the blueprint for their juniors in years to come. The Chairman then threw idea of finding a suitable name for the event, and a cash prize of Rs 500 to the student who suggests the appropriate title for the event.

Confluence, Koncurrenz, Alpha …was all names suggested by various groups and finally CASTALIA which means – "a fountain at the base of mount helicon in Greece and that inspires all who drank her water or listened to her quiet sound". Thus the National level management meet was Christened as CASTALIA “A source of inspiration” by Mr.R.Muruganathan and K.P.Vinoth kumar, Indeed history has been created and the management awarded a cash and prize of Rs.500 each.

What about the events, the prizes, sponsor the scope of the event? The thinks-tanks, all students after a brain storming session had outlined the event which was then fine tuned by the Director and the green Signal was flashed. The students worked round the clock and designed the banner, finalized the events, evinced interest of some sponsors and with the blessing of the Chairman lit the Castalia Torch on 20th Feb at the Seminar Hall.

The registration began at 9 AM and the ceremony was inaugurated at 10 AM by Mr.K Satheesh Kumar - VP Tehelka Bangalore. Cdr.K.Velu the Chairman was pleased with such a large gathering from 22 colleges. He stressed on the need for more of such functions which enabled the students to interact, learn, compare and compete with their counterparts. He also reiterated that team works play a major role in all activities and of the corporate the world and the word "I" has been replaced by "WE" and thus calls for complete Team work. The Best Manager event was shelved and in the place of best management team. The Participants moved to their respective venues where the events were held at around 11 am. Mr.Vivek student of Final year MBA the quiz master kept the participants and the audience in the edge of the seats. The participants in the best management teams had to use all wits and presence of mind to sail through the events. Current knowledge of stock market helped the teams to thrive in Money Honey. The results were completed and prizes distributed at the valediction by Mr. S Ramani, Consultant and Head Education and Logistics, CII- Chennai.

The Students decided not to take the same beaten track like the other institutions and included the following events and the winners of Castalia-2010 were:

The highlight was introduction of rolling shield, which has now become thing of the past. Corporate fashion parade was another event to keep in touch with the trend of the younger generation. Cash prize of Rs.55000 is in all was in stake apart from the host of consolation prizes.

PSG College of Technology was the overall winners and walked away with the rolling trophy. When the participants were requested for a feed back on the conduct of Castalia, a few comments were: "East or west Castalia is the best"
"We refuse to believe that this is the first management meet organized by your students" "A tender seed that has matured into a full grown fruit"
"Very Well Planned, Organized and Executed"
"We will try and replicate Castalia."

Mrs R.Sucharitha,Msc.,M.Phil., Senoir Lecturer, Dept. of Costume Design - Bishop Appasamy College was the Judge for the Corporate Fashion Parade was very impressed with the planning, conduct, hospitality and the warmth of the Venkateswarites. She attributed the success of the event to the entire team and pronounced the title of Mr.CASTALIA to the Chairman.

The torch of the Management Event Christened as CASATALIA has been lit. It is now left to the juniors to carry the baton and keep the flame of Castalia alive.
