EDUCATION SUMMIT - 2010

In a view to foster the education sector and build India towards a knowledge society CII Tamil Nadu Organized the second edition summit on 04 Feb at Hotel Metropolitan Chennai.

Objective
The objective of the Summit was to focus on attracting the Talent Profession in Teaching & Research, Igniting Rural India through Higher Education and create an Ecosystem for Higher Education through Innovation & Research.

The highlights of the summit were:
Mr. Oscar Fernandes was one of the speakers education summit said “EDUCATION IS THE FOUNDATION OF ECONOMIC GROWTH and it is the turn of industries to pitch in to funds higher education – The economy of the US is now controlled by the Indians and not the Jews anymore. He asked all the leading educationists to ponder over his statement “if technology becomes obsolete in 6 months, why isn’t the syllabus revised accordingly.

The Gross Enrollment Ratio in India was as low as 10.2% while in the developing nations it was 56%. Lack of funding was one of the main reasons for low GER. A few of the institutes had introduced Transformation Index, where the progress of the student continuously tracked during his degree.

The academicians present in the event went gaga over Mr. Santhosh Babu IAS collector of Krishnagiri He spoke with facts and figures as to how he ensured 100% Children attend Schools in Krishnagiri. He is instrumental in starting rural BPO’s with school dropouts, large scale skilled employees in Tanishq & Titan and enumerated as to how Self Help Group was employed in the kitchen of TVS and this SHG pays tax to the government.

The Government in the 11th plan has chalked out methods and means to open at least 1500 Universities and increase GER by 20 million. Teachers will be in great demand they have a major role in building the economy of nations.

As the recent survey on who contributes to the development of society had these findings:
Doctor - 23%
Military - 19%
Engineers - 5%
Politicians - 2%
Others - 5%
Teachers - 32%

Mr.Kapil Sibal on assuming the office of HRD Ministry, pronounced that the floodgates for globalization was open to the Indian industries in 1991 – and the flood gates for education will commence in 2009 and the seeds of liberalization in the field of education will be sown in a planned and deliberate manner in the years to come
